Gaming Update 2

This is what I have been working on for the past couple of days. I am finishing and correcting the flowchart of the outline of the level layout while laying it out in the game. I am also working on the designing of the last 5 game areas. I have the ideas mapped out and trying to have all the buildings in place. The final thing I am working on is the NPC placement. for the last couple of areas for balance testing and the first stage of the beta test.

Weapons & Armor

No RPG is complete without the use of weapons and armor. Well, it is if you are a monk. However, I think my point is made. I am in the process of creating armors and weapons for the main character. They will need some type of armor to protect them and a weapon to attack or defend with.

I also took some of the creatures out of the forest level. The player was getting attacked way too many times on that area. After I am finished with those two things then I will have people start testing the first 5 area so make sure the balancing is correct.

Scripting

I looked over a couple of scripting topics today. They do their scripting in the C language. I took the time today to look over the C appendix in the book and to try a couple of things out. There is just so much that you can do. I am slighty over whelmed. I may have to just get a couple of ideas that I want the NPC and the PC to be able to try and just find aways that I an do that.

Lets Talk NPC

Im starting to populate my area well, at least the first 5 areas. It should be able to playtest by the end of the week. There is a couple of hard parts though.... like tring to balance it out. I found out a way of getting rid of those creatures that were attacking in the first couple of area that I did not put there. The answer......? Just make the player stronger. Simple right? Well, I figured it into the story. I have dialogue information from my mentor so that I will be able to make a dialogue sheet along with the other information. I will start working on that stuff right away. However, for right now back to balancing.

Why to I have to die?

I am connecting the different areas to get a feel for how big each of the areas that I have created are. There was a learning curve with waypoint connections, but I was able to get that issue solved by looking it up. Now, that I am walking around the area in the forest there is a camp of skeletons that I am sure that I did not put there and they are killing me. The more I think about it though I did place skeleton remains as objects not creatures in the area. Those could be the ones that are attacking me. So, I am setting those objects from hostile to defender. I have two reasons for this the first reason is that I do not want to keep on dieing. The second reason is that apart of the story I am going to need the skeletons not to attack me, but to attack other people.

Milestones

I just finished the project document. I am hoping that I wrote everything down. It really does seem like alot. I know that I should be able to get everything done in a timely matter. I do have some fears about playtesting and writing the script for the NPCs with placing everything like I want it to be placed. I may have to move a couple of things around, but we will see as of right now I think things are good. Until Next time.....

Presentation

I had to make corrections for the presentation to have this project approved. When I showed Kim the paper outline for the concept I was missing a couple of links along with an explanation. I have finished adding those links and explantions. Hopfully everything is alright and I will be approved.

Also, for tomorrow I have to make milestones for the project. I will start that now and make them in Project that way I will be finished with something else that I would have had to do for the role that I am going for which is Project Manager/Producer.

Set up complete

I finished setting up different placeable objects in the first 5 sections of the game. The next thing that I am going to compete is putting the NPC's both good and bad on the first 5 levels. Once that is compete I will have the first stage of my playtesting. This is to make sure that all the balancing is right up until the first boss fight. My goal is going to be set up for each of the different areas once it is all compete like that. I already have a couple of people who have volunteered to test the balancing out of that. However, I know that I need more. So, I was thinking about putting the couple of stages that I have finished on my website once it is done. Actually, I think I will do that. Until later.....

First Week

For my senior project I am designing a Neverwinter Nights Mod. I also want to make a couple of the documents that a producer would also make. Since the job of the producer is what I would like to go for once I am out of college.

The mod would be 10 main areas and inside a couple of those areas there will be houses and towers that the player will be able to go though. The mod will follow a person who is evil and the fact that you have to kill all the good people who killed you and the people who supported them.

The documents that I want to create for this project is the project file with the milestones and a mini game design document. It can not be any larger since I am not creating any of the artwork or the code. It is more of a putting objects together with this project. It will be different then anything that I have ever done before. I will also create the level design documents that I will used to create the level in Neverwinter.

What I have done so far I created the first 5 areas for the project. What I have done is setting up how everything should look. What I have not done is setting up different objects and the different creatures in the 5 areas. This will be done next. I also have a list of creatures/people/bosses and the different locations that each will go in. I also have a flowchart of each area and how the player will go though the area.
